Bill Gates says we must start building vaccine factories now


Gates called on the US government to start constructing factories for the most promising vaccine developments in the fight against the virus.

Life can only fully return to normal once a vaccine to combat the new coronavirus is available globally, Gates was reported to have said in an interview with the US broadcaster Fox News on Sunday. Although a vaccine against the virus is not expected to be available before next year,  he said that work needs to start to enable a “billions of doses capacity” as quickly as possible.

On his blog on Thursday, he advised US leaders to: 

  • be strong on shutdowns. 
  • ramp-up testing.
  • adopt a data-based approach to developing treatments and a vaccine.

In a 2015 TED talk, Gates said the world's largest threat was a pandemic.
